Enrollment Procedures
I am licensed for children ranging from infants through children 6 years of age.

Security Deposit
Before your child is admitted into child care, you must pay a two-week security deposit. This deposit will be credited towards your last two weeks of child care when you decide to leave Vienna Home Day Care. Deposits are based on your normal weekly fee.

Types of Care

Full Day: Attendance of up to 10 hours per day, contracted on a set schedule of days per week. Extra payment may be required.

Before and After School Care: Attendance of up to 4 hours before and after school contracted on a set schedule of days per week.

House Rules

Please respect my profession, my home, and me. The respect that you show me, including my home, furnishings, equipment, yard, and other children will communicate itself to your child and will make for a better working relationship. There are three house rules that all children will be taught and expected to follow. In addition, although I realize that I must expect a certain amount of wear and tear where children are concerned, I do not want to have my home "demolished."

The three basic house rules are:
  • You may not hurt yourself.
  • You may not hurt others. (Hurt can be emotional too, not just physical.)
  • You may not hurt things (furniture, toys, etc.).

Discipline Policy

My philosophy is that you use discipline to teach a child. I achieve this through love, consistency, and firmness. I stress two main patterns of behavior: respect for other people and respect for property. The children are explained the rules of the child care home frequently, so they are all familiar with the guidelines.

Please keep in mind that there WILL be disagreements between children. Young children, especially, who are not adept at communication, have a hard time expressing their feelings. Sometimes they hit or throw toys, etc. Although teaching children appropriate behavior is what I will be doing, remember that this behavior is normal in most cases.

When a child is having a difficult time following direction or treating others or property with respect, developmentally appropriate guidance techniques will be utilized. These techniques include Positive Reinforcement, Active Listening, Forestalling, Redirection and Calm Down Time.

Children are never punished for lapses in toilet training or for accidents (spilled milk, for example). In the case of the latter, I will have the child help me clean up, if possible, not for punishment, but to help teach responsibility.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will there be any spanking, physical abuse, verbal abuse, name calling or isolation used. Neither food nor sleep will ever be withheld from children as a means of punishment.

Children are served snacks* on a regular basis, provided opportunities for active play and quiet play, and given individual attention. I have found that many problems can be avoided through this proactive approach.

(*Snacks are provided free of charge.)

Fire Safety

I have a written fire evacuation plan and practice a fire drill with the children on a quarterly basis. In addition, I incorporate fire safety curriculum into my program occasionally.

Non-admittance

A child will not be admitted if he/she exhibits symptoms for exclusion. Additionally, if your child is unable to participate in the normal activities of the daily schedule, then your child must stay home.

Symptoms for exclusion
  1. Fever of 101 degrees F or above
  2. Diarrhea (three or more watery stools within 24 hours)
  3. Vomiting on two or more occasions during the past 24 hours.
  4. An unusual or draining rash
  5. Severe diaper rash
  6. Eye discharge or Pink eye
  7. Lice or nits
  8. Chickenpox - until all blisters have dried and formed scabs, usually about 6 days after the onset of the rash.
  9. Communicable diseases (mumps, measles, influenza, etc.)
  10. Too tired or ill to participate in normal activities

* As for infants with fevers and/or diarrhea and as it pertains to teething, I will only accept a child with these symptoms back into care after the child has seen a doctor and a note is sent from the doctor stating that these symptoms are due to teething.

Illness report

Each illness, as it occurs during a stay at Vienna Home Day Care, will be recorded on an illness report. Parents will be given a copy of this report.

Minor Injuries

Minor bumps and scratches are inevitable, but we make every effort to keep the children safe through supervision and child-proofing. Minor injuries receive appropriate first aid. I am certified in Adult, Child and Infant CPR and First aid. Each injury, as it occurs during a stay at Vienna Home Day Care, will be recorded on an injury report. Parents will be given a copy of this report.

Cleanliness & Hygiene

I do my best to maintain strict cleanliness and hygiene standards. Children's hands are washed before and after meals and after toileting or playing outdoors. I use individual towels for drying hands, so children do not have to use the same towel. If parents provide a toothbrush and toothpaste, teeth will be brushed, as well. I wash my hands frequently. Infants sleep in separate cribs or pack and plays, with clean sheets used only by them. Beginning at about one year of age, washable nap mats are used. Each child has a separate nap mat, with sheets, blankets and pillows that are washed weekly (unless soiled, then they are washed as often as necessary).

Holiday Celebrations and Cultural Awareness

Not only are the children at Vienna Home Day Care given the opportunity to explore, experiment and create in a safe and nurturing environment, they are exposed to children of different cultures and ethnical backgrounds.

In exploring the traditions, cultures and beliefs of the children in care, our community and our world children will sometimes discuss or read about religions or spiritual beliefs, lifestyles or customs that are different than their own. All materials will be presented in an objective and impartial way and are intended to aid children in developing a positive self-concept and feeling of pride in who they are, as well teaching them to accept and celebrate differences.

Holidays and Observances Calendar

Vienna Home Day Care is closed on all Federal Holidays.

Outdoor Play

We will be playing outdoors every day that weather permits. Please make sure that your child is appropriately dressed for outdoor play at all times with shoes that adequately protect the feet and are not slick soled -- tennis shoes are a good choice.

Our activities will include backyard playground, water play (such as sprinkler in summer), bike/toy riding, sensory play, and more.

During spring and fall, our outdoor play will probably range from 20 - 45 minutes, and in the summer it may be two hours or more (maybe not all at once).

I appreciate you taking time to review this information. I look forward to meeting with you soon.
